3 Signs Your Septic Tank Needs To Be Pumped Out

Posted on

Your septic system is a part of your home that helps remove waste and wastewater, then collects it in the septic tank. While other homes may have a system that allows the waste to flow into a sewer system, that is then collected at a facility, your waste collects in a tank in your yard. This tank holds onto the waste until it is pumped out. All of this is the responsibility of the homeowner. If you are new to having a septic system, you may not be aware of when your tank needs to be pumped out. There are, however, signs that this needs to be done. Read on for a few signs that your septic tank needs to be pumped out.

1. Puddling In Your Yard

If there is noticeable puddling in your yard, it may be due to the septic tank being so full and the septic field not being able to hold any more moisture whatsoever. If you have puddling, it's time to have your septic tank inspected to see if it needs to be pumped out. Even if you don't have actual puddling, but you notice that your yard seems a lot more lush or green in the area, it may be the sign of some trouble to come and you should have your tank pumped out.

2. Slow Draining Inside Your Home

If your drains are slowly moving, or you have a hard time getting the water to drain at all, it's a sign of a major issue. Your tank may be so full that the waste has nowhere to go and is having a hard time getting into the tank at all. Eventually what will happen is the waste will not go down at all, and you could end up with a backup in your home instead. Have your tank pumped out immediately if you notice slow draining.

3. Odors

If you are beginning to notice foul odors outside of your home, or even coming into your home from your drains, it's time to have your septic tank inspected and pumped out as necessary. Odors could mean that the tank is full and isn't able to contain the waste any longer, or you could potentially have a leak somewhere as well. Have your tank inspected or pumped out.
